Tsavo East National park
This park lies predominantly on a plateau of open thorn country with occasional rocky outcrops covering some 12,000ha. The Yatta Plateau is one of the world's largest lava flows running north along the western boundary with the Athi River and Galana River below it joining the Sabaki River which flows into the Indian Ocean north of Malindi. The Park is easily accessible by road from Mombasa or from Nairobi. There are a number of well established tented camps and lodges with full facilities, very good cuisine and well stocked bars. Sitting outside under the stars listening to the night sounds comprised of animal grunts; snorts and whistles; insects and night birds has to be one of life's treasured moments. Comments
Tsavo West National Park
Tsavo West is 9,000 km2 and together with Tsavo East accounts for Kenya’s single largest protected area by Kenya Wildlife Services. The main Nairobi/Mombasa road bisects the two parks. The topography in this park varies from open thorn tree country to black lava flows of around 200years old. Mzima Springs is fed by underground streams from the nearby Chyulu Hills and is home to a large population of hippos and fish.
The Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary is situated in the Park covering 75km2 where over 50 rhino are contained within an electric fence. This sanctuary plays an important part in rhino conservation. From the north western part of the park, views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Amboseli National Park and the Chyulu Hills are visable. The park has several established well appointed tented camps and lodges.
