South Coast
Along the south coast holiday venues such as Diani Beach provide a variety of beach hotels; houses to rent; shopping centres; restaurants and cafes; cyber cafes; diving; deep sea fishing and other sporting activities. The islands of Chale and Funzi lie a short way off the south coast. Inland about half an hour’s drive is the district of Kwale where the Shimba Hills National Park and Maluganje Elephant Sanctuary are located providing opportunities to see wildlife in their natural habitat. The famous Roan and Sable Antelope are found in the Shimba Hills Park and a large population of elephants and other small game are found in the Maluganje Sanctuary a few kilometers away. Colobus monkeys can be seen in the trees along the Diani Beach road. Approximately 35 kms south of Diani is the small village of Shimoni where dhow trips are organized to take visitors to the Kisite Mpungati Marine Park to snorkel or dive amongst some of the most spectacular marine life. This is a day trip with lunch usually included and a visit to one of the nearby villages. Beyond Shimoni is the border between Kenya and Tanzania.
