History of the Lawrence Brown family ...
Geoff Lawrence-Brown became a professional photographer and hunter in Tanzania starting a company called The Serengeti Tours and Safaris. This was then bought out by the Tanzania Wildlife Department and Geoff became the first minister of Tourism and Wildlife. Geoff died at an early age of 45 with a punctured ulcer too far from help. All the brothers were responsible for the input and security of several early Hollywood game safari films such as King Solomon’s Mines with Ava Gardner and Stewart Granger with David Lunan (Stan’s partner), Geoff Lawrence-Brown and many other younger hunters of the time.
Stan Lawrence-Brown was the professional hunter who to have taken the actor John Wayne on his first safari and guided him on his first elephant hunt. Stan stood by John Wayne’s side when a fight broke out in the new Arusha Hotel after one too many drinks. It is said that between them there were only two left standing!
My father Max Lawrence-Brown was the last survivng brother and the oldest and Stan. Myself, Howard Lawrence-Brown, together with my wife Sue and my son David continue in there footsteps and the family tradition.
