The Kenya coast offers white beaches; palm trees; friendly people; sun rises and sunsets of glorious colours; marine life equal to the Barrier Reef and generally a place to unwind and relax while just soaking up the sun and the ambiance.

Lamu
Starting from the north along Kenya's coastline is Lamu Island. An ancient Swahili settlement and World Heritage Site with it's maze of winding narrow streets and intricately carved doorways. Dhows are a common sight in the Lamu area and Matondoni is the main dhow building centre. Palm mat weaving is done nearby in Kipungani. There are historical sites to visit such as the Lamu Museum, the German Post Office Museum, villages, visit Swahili houses and learn about their designs, snorkel or dive, try your skills deep sea fishing and hook up with a billfish or take a boat ride with a barbeque beach lunch. There are plenty of activities to enjoy. There are a number of hotels; apartments and houses to rent in the area - all varied in price and quality. A variety of eating places provides the traveler with a choice of many different tastes, local and international. International communications and banking services are available. Just be patient. Shela Island just nearby and south of Lamu Island also offers visitors attractive accommodation. The Lamu Archeipelago islands are Lamu, Manda, Pate and Kiwayu and are easily reached by water transport. Fly in from anywhere, take a dhow or water transport to the Islands and begin a remarkable journey into a historical era.
